Also, elite women when they would go out to visit at cafés, shopping, and at home calls; those dresses' hime lengths would be somewhere between the slightly above the heal and ankle. The constant floor length gowns would be costume and formal stuff.

This was really interesting. I have personally been trying out an ancestral (Celtic/viking) diet over the last few months for health reasons and found I often felt far better than usual and my body really started to react well to it. Unfortunately, in today's world these simple foods are often more costly to prepare than modern junk/imported vegetables, especially the differing varieties of smoked fish and game meats found commonly in ancient Britain and Scandinavia. I think you probably ate far more fruits and vegetables than would have been in a genuine diet overall and think it would have been mainly proteins and fats, but as you say, if you were doing a recreation then the seasonal fruits, vegetables and hazelnuts wouldn't have been as readily available. Keep up this awesome series!

Hello Ms. Birchwood. There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed off. Life in general is so difficult and depresing, that for a good person, it is normal to feel really bad and even be scared of our planet and people in general. Well, just too many peole don´t have that much great personality, so those very few people with great personality suffer, since they are genuiely sincire. It is only logical and always been like that. The reality, that you suffer just shows, that you care about things and you want this world to be beautiful place, but it is not to the extend you wish it was. Good people always suffer, bad people don´t, because they just don´t care. Simple logic here. You don´t have to feel weird, because it is natural. It is everything alright! I am 37 years old man, who also like to dress up, loves classic live style and wish the world was a better place, but it is the way it is and I also feel quite depresed often, but if people like us stick together, we could live good life and love one another. Maybe I am talking nonsense and you suffer from different reasons, but at least I wanted to give you my view on this topic and some support, which you deserve. If you would like to talk about it and perhaps meet someone, who shares your view, please don´t hesitate to answer me. I can be very supportive and motivating. Have a nice day and keep doing, what you are doing. It is great. Miroslav Soukup

Does different colored t-shirt and clean underwear count for different outfits? 😂 otherwise I have never owned 7 distinct styles of outfit. It's of note to me how others practise self-expression through what they wear when I only dress for the utility of it. It's rain and mud I put on boots. If it's cold then I layer up. It's never something along the lines of I feel this mood today, therefore I will wear this. I think you bore the outfits very well V.!

Vikings did happen on the Mediterranean coast. Hellenistic jewelry would have possibly been up for grabs. Further, this style could have easily made it's way into Briton culture. One of the reasons why iron and dark age Scandinavia is so intriguing. They took in so much culture of the world like Rome or America. (Violently as always, unfortunately...)

After watching your summer wardrobe video, I bought myself some cotton sheets at the thrift store to give this a try!! I feel that is the most accessible method when this simply HAS to be natural fibers and a TON of fabric to work, especially for my 6’4” self 😭 I can’t wait to make this, but I think I’ll go to the fabric store and invest in a nice tape/ribbon to tie it up for wearing. I don’t wear historical fashion every day (although I wear a LOT of vintage-inspired clothing), but I will be making this for daily wear! I have been dying for a good 70’s kaftan this summer. Why buy a kaftan when I can make a kiton which can serve that function too!!!

One way to 'beat' (or at least improve) wrinkles is to hang the garment on a sturdy wooden hanger and hang it out on your clothesline on a really hot sunny summer's day. Check n it frequently and hand smooth as needed. This will help eliminate wrinkles a lot. It is intensive and takes a lot of time and attention but it is worth it. And afterward take care to store it where it won't get wrinkled again.
